The Acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Prof Daniel Pondei, on Monday afternoon caused a stir at the ongoing House of Representatives Committee Public Hearing on the commission as he collapsed.
Pondei fainted when he was being grilled by the Committee over allegations of humongous allegations of graft and fraud in the commission. Pondei had walked out on the panel last week.
Specifically, his response to allegation of N1.5 billion of misappropriation had swept him off his feet as collapsed and could not answer the questions put to him by the committee chairman.
A swift intervention from people around him helped to resuscitate him.
After regaining consciousness, Pondei left the Hearing Room 231, showing feelings of unwell.
Persecondnews reports that earlier, the Chairman of the House Committee, Mr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (APC-Ondo), had stepped aside as head of the panel investigating the alleged corruption.
Another lawmaker, Mr Thomas Ereyitomi (PDP-Delta), took over and conducted the hearing.
No reason was given for his “stepping aside’’.
Among the striking tweets picked by Persecondnews is from Chucks Akuuna@akunnachux: “Breaking: NDDC Ag. MD Prof. Daniel Pondei, collapses before House Committee. Money when dem chop too mush !’’
