Lassa fever: 2 doctors, pregnant woman die in Kano

Lassa fever has reportedly claimed three persons including two doctors and a pregnant woman in Mano.
 The deaths were recorded at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).
The three victims including two medical doctors died few hours after operating a pregnant patient, suspected to be a primary carrier at the teaching hospital.
A senior medical doctor at AKTH said the case is under investigation.
He said the hospital has already collected samples of the primary source for investigation at the the National Infectious disease.
While awaiting the results there was an emergency meeting on Monday night between the Kano State Ministry of Health and AKTH for harmonious effort on the suspected case, a source said.

Already, the authorities have commenced contact tracing of all health workers who participated in the operation while proper precautionary measures are being taken at the hospital.

Contacted, the spokeswoman of the hospital, Hajia Hauwa said “no case of lassa fever is established yet.”

She, however, said the hospital had instituted a technical committee to investigate the suspected outbreak.
