Kylian Mbappé has withdrawn from the France national team camp and returned to Madrid after developing inflammation in his right ankle, team officials confirmed on Friday.

The 26-year-old forward had scored a brace in France’s 4-0 win over Ukraine in the World Cup qualifier on Thursday reaching a milestone 400 career goals.

Mbappé’s withdrawal comes as a blow to France’s preparations, with the team set to face Azerbaijan in their next match.

The severity of the inflammation is yet to be disclosed, and it’s unclear whether the issue will affect Mbappé’s availability for Real Madrid’s upcoming fixtures, including their match against Elche.

France coach Didier Deschamps will be without Mbappé, Eduardo Camavinga, and Manu Koné for the Azerbaijan match, with Camavinga suffering a muscle strain and Koné suspended.

Mbappé’s Real Madrid teammates and fans are anxiously awaiting updates on his condition, hoping he’ll be fit for their upcoming matches.
