Super Eagles Set the Record Straight: Unpaid Dues, Not Bonuses, Are the Issue

"Any other statement/claim especially demands other than the rightful request written below are FALSE"

The Nigerian national football team’s camp in Rabat, Morocco, descended into chaos on Tuesday as the entire squad and officials walked out of training in protest.

The demonstration was sparked by a long-standing financial crisis involving unpaid bonuses and allowances that have lingered since 2019.

The visibly frustrated players have slammed the brakes on preparations for their crucial playoff against Gabon, stating they will not resume training until the financial dispute is immediately resolved.

Captain William Troost‑Ekong moved quickly to set the record straight, posting on X: “Any other statement/claim especially demands other than the rightful request written below are FALSE.”

He added that the team’s stance is simple “The full squad including officials boycotted training today in Morocco because of the unresolved issues with outstanding payments.”

The centre‑back emphasized that the players are not asking for a special bonus, just the clearance of their legitimate dues.

In a joint statement, the players reiterated the same message: “The Super Eagles are awaiting a quick resolution to continue the preparation for Thursday’s game with Gabon.”

Troost‑Ekong reinforced this, noting that any suggestion of a new, “special” payout is a misrepresentation and that the only demand on the table is the payment of the long‑overdue bonuses that have lingered for several seasons.
