Amid the backlash over her viral remarks about being open to becoming a second wife, award-winning Nigerian singer Tiwatope Omolara Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, has now set the record straight.

In a recent interview, the 45-year-old singer clarified that her earlier statement was not a genuine desire to be a second wife, but a fleeting expression of emotional fatigue after numerous failed relationships and heartbreaks.

Reflecting on her past marriage, Tiwa explained: “I was a first wife — where did that get me? I got married as the only wife, but here we are. I’m tired of being heartbroken; maybe I’m getting it wrong. Maybe I should try being a second wife.”

However, she quickly emphasized that the comment was made out of frustration and not as a serious reflection of her intentions.

“It’s not my choice, though. I don’t want to,” Tiwa clarified.

The “Somebody’s Son” crooner added that she still believes in love, despite her experiences.

“I wish I could tell my truth, but I will be dragged. I don’t want to be [a second wife]. I’m looking for love. Let’s just leave it at that,” she said.

Tiwa Savage was previously married to music executive Tunji Balogun, better known as TBillz.

Persecondnews reports that the couple had tied the knot in 2013 and had a son together.

Their marriage ended in 2018 after a public fallout involving allegations of infidelity and emotional distress from both parties.
