A joint military operation led by “Operation Hadin Kai” (OPHK) says it has successfully rescued 86 kidnap victims held by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Borno State.
The operation, carried out by soldiers from the 135 special forces battalion under Sector 2, was in response to reports of abductions along the Buratai-Kamuya road.
“The troops encountered Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists at Dutse Kura on Sunday, engaging them in combat before pursuing the insurgents to Mangari,” said Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of OPHK in a statement on Monday.
“A follow-up encounter led to the destruction of 11 makeshift terrorist structures and the rescue of the victims, including men, women, and children.”
The rescued victims were found in the terrorists’ camp, where they had been held captive.
The troops recovered several items, including an AK-47 rifle, five magazines with 73 rounds, four PKT ammunition belts, five civilian vehicles, five motorcycles, eight bicycles, and two logistics tricycles.
“The terrorists’ camp was destroyed following clearance operations,” Uba said.
“The troops also apprehended 29 suspected terrorist logistics suppliers en route to the Chilaria area of Borno, found with two pickup vans and a tricycle carrying about 1,000 litres of petrol, engine oil, new gun truck tyres, medical consumables, and large quantities of food.”
The military operation was a significant blow to the terrorist group, disrupting their supply chain and freeing the kidnap victims.
The Military High Command has commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism.
