President Bola Tinubu has directed the Armed Forces to review security operations, including the deployment of advanced military hardware and surveillance equipment, to eliminate terrorist groups across the country.

Persecondnews reports that this directive comes in the wake of a recent terrorist attack in Darajamal community in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, which claimed 60 lives.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, in a statement by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha on Monday, expressed deep condolences to the government and people of Borno, his home state, over the tragic loss of lives.

He described the incident as a profound loss to both the state and the nation, and extended his heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, and the Nigerian military.

“These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families,” the Vice President stated.

He said: “I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum @GovBorno, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots. These deaths have left the entire nation in collective grief, but we are confident that justice will be served for the bereaved families.”

The Vice President voiced his confidence in the Armed Forces’ ability to handle the state’s security issues.

He noted that President Tinubu has approved the purchase of more drones and has directed all security agencies to step up and revise their strategies.

Shettima added that the federal government is considering establishing state police, with President Tinubu stressing the importance of creating specialized units that are familiar with local areas, cultures, and can build effective networks at the community level.

He also offered condolences to the families who lost loved ones and assured both the state government and the affected families that the federal government will continue to support efforts to address the security situation.

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the community on Friday night, burning more than 20 houses, vehicles, food, and other valuable belongings of the resettled Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The community hosts a military base on the Nigeria-Cameroon border in a zone ravaged by jihadist attacks.

Persecondnews recalls that Zulum had on Saturday, visited the community to condole with families of the 63 people killed by Boko Haram insurgents.

A visibly moved Zulum told journalists: “We are here to commiserate with the people of Darajamal over what happened last night that has claimed the lives of many people. It is very sad.

“This community was settled a few months ago, and they go about their normal activities, but unfortunately, they experienced a Boko Haram attack last night. Our visit is to commiserate with them and build their resilience.

“At this moment, we have confirmed that 63 people lost their lives, both civilians and military, although the civilian casualties are more. Close to about 60 civilians and five soldiers lost their lives.”
