Breaking: Reprieve as El-Rufai granted bail

"El-Rufai, who insists on his innocence of the charges slammed on him, will only be granted his freedom upon meeting the court’s prescribed bail conditions"

After several weeks in custody, a Federal High Court in Kaduna has granted the bail application for Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, the state’s former governor, in his ongoing legal battle with the ICPC.
El-Rufai, who insists on his innocence of the charges slammed on him, will be granted his freedom upon meeting the court’s prescribed conditions.
The ruling marks a significant turn in the proceedings, with the former governor’s son and ADC party officials confirming the development.
However, El-Rufai’s legal hurdles remain complex, as the ICPC continues to push separate, newly amended charges against him in a parallel state court case.
The ICPC argued that ongoing investigations made it necessary to proceed cautiously, warning that granting bail at this stage could interfere with evidence collection.
The defence team, led by Ukpong Abang, maintained that El-Rufai had fully cooperated with investigators and posed no flight risk.
Following submissions from both counsel, the State High Court adjourned the ruling to Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
“Our client has complied with all investigative requests and is prepared to abide by any bail conditions the court may impose,” Abang said.
