The day Don Jazzy gives me a record I will cry — Skales

1k

Nigerian singer and rapper Skales has opened up on a deeply personal dream that, if fulfilled, would bring him to tears—getting a record from iconic music producer Don Jazzy.

In a recent interview monitored by Per Second News, Skales shared how much it would mean to him for Don Jazzy to offer him a beat or song.

The former EME signee revealed that such a moment would not just be a career milestone, but an emotional full-circle victory given their long history in the Nigerian music industry.

“The day Don Jazzy gives me a record, I will cry,” Skales admitted. “That would be a full-circle victory for me. It’s not just music; it’s life coming back around in a beautiful way.”

Skales and Don Jazzy go way back to the early days of Afrobeats’ evolution, though they never worked closely.

Skales was once affiliated with Banky W’s EME, which also housed Wizkid, while Don Jazzy led Mo’Hits and later Mavin Records.

Despite being in different camps, both artists have shared mutual respect over the years.

For Skales, who has faced both highs and lows in his career—from delivering hit singles like Shake Body to weathering industry politics and public scrutiny—a collaboration with Don Jazzy represents more than just music.

It would be a nod to perseverance and validation from one of the most respected figures in Nigerian entertainment.

“People don’t really understand what this industry takes from you,” Skales said. “So when someone like Don Jazzy recognizes your work enough to give you a record, that’s not small. That’s legacy acknowledging legacy.”

Skales emphasized that he holds no sense of entitlement and understands that collaborations often depend on timing and alignment.

However, he is hopeful that someday the stars will align.

He also used the opportunity to express admiration for Don Jazzy’s consistency and ability to evolve with the times while still nurturing talent across generations.

“He’s like the godfather. Still relevant. Still fresh. Still humble. That’s inspiring,” Skales noted.

Fans have already begun reacting on social media, tagging Don Jazzy and urging him to “make Skales cry—in a good way.”

Many called for the collaboration to happen, describing it as long overdue.
