Culture and Creative Economy Ministry Advocates Stronger Nigeria-China Education Collaboration

The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy has called for enhanced educational collaboration between Nigeria and China through expanded scholarships and cultural exchange programmes.

The partnership fosters a new wave of cultural ambassadors by facilitating cultural immersion for students and young professionals, according to reports.

The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mrs. Patricia Ebiene, made the call during a Chinese celebration, “Mid-Autumn Festival, “A Moonment to Remember,” held at the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja.

Ebiene highlighted the potential for the two countries to collaborate in key areas such as joint film and television productions, as well as fashion and design partnerships.

She said that by fostering such cooperation, both nations can unlock significant opportunities for economic growth and cultural integration, ultimately strengthening their bilateral ties.

She said: “The bilateral relationship between Nigeria and China dates back to the early 1970s, when our two nations established diplomatic ties.

“Since then, we have engaged in numerous cultural exchanges, establishing a robust framework built on mutual respect, friendship, and cooperation.

“Culture is the heartbeat of any nation; it embodies our values, history, and the essence of who we are. The rich tapestry of Chinese culture with its philosophical depth and artistic excellence perfectly complements Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage.

“From the majestic silk paintings of Suzhou to the vibrant artistry of Nigeria’s traditional textiles, our artistic expressions tell a story of resilience, innovation, and vibrant heritage.

“The coincidental timing of our celebrations today reminds us that amidst our diversity, we find common grounds where mutual respect and support flourish.

“It is a beautiful acknowledgment that both nations, with deep historical roots and ambitions for the future, can come together to enrich each other’s cultural landscapes.

“As we celebrate our independence as a nation, we recognize the value of cultural symbiosis, understanding that vibrant and empathetic nations are those that celebrate their uniqueness while honouring each other’s narratives.

“By working together, we can create cultural exchange programmes that attract tourists, thereby enriching our economies and providing sustained cultural appreciation. In doing this, may we carry forward the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect, not just for our nations but for the global community we inhabit.

“Together, as we celebrate China’s National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival alongside Nigeria’s Independence, let us sow the seeds for a flourishing relationship where our histories, cultures, and aspirations bloom in unison,” she said.

Also speaking at the event, the Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and Director of the China Cultural Centre, Mr. Yang Jianxing, expressed his willingness to consider the permanent secretary’s request, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange between the two nations.

Despite the 10,100 km distance and 21-hour journey from China to Nigeria, Jianxing warmly noted that Nigeria feels like home, underscoring the strong connection between the two countries.

In his remarks, Jianxing highlighted how China’s Mid-Autumn Festival spirit of family reunion has evolved into a universal philosophy of caring for others and promoting global well-being.

He said: “Chinese President Xi Jinping announced at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation earlier this month that China will collaborate with Africa on ten partnership actions for modernization, aiming to deepen their cooperation and spearhead Global South modernization.

“Additionally, President Xi Jinping and President Tinubu agreed to elevate China-Nigeria relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and establish a high-level China-Nigeria community with a shared future.

“In simpler words, China would like to share experience, help each other, and develop together with all African countries that have diplomatic relations with China, including Nigeria.

“I believe this is a concrete manifestation of the Chinese concept of “Tianxia Datong,” which means all people under heaven are of one family.

On October 1st, we will mark a historic double celebration: the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China’s founding and Nigeria’s National Day.

“As we commemorate this special occasion, I extend warm wishes to all friends for happiness, joy, and cherished moments with loved ones.

May the China-Nigeria friendship continue to flourish, bringing prosperity and harmony to both nations for generations to come.”
