The Nigerian Senate has on Thursday approved an extension of the 2023 supplementary appropriation bill, prolonging its implementation until December 31, 2024.

As a result, the execution of the 2023 supplementary budget will coincide with the implementation of the 2024 budget, which stands at N28.78 trillion.

The passage came after an emergency plenary session, led by Senate President. Godswill Obot Akpabio was convened to address the matter.

Sen. Michael Bamidele Opeyemi, who represents the Ekiti Central Senatorial District, sponsored the bill to extend the implementation of the 2023 supplemental budget.

In his remarks, Akpabio expressed his gratitude to his fellow Senators for their cooperation and patriotic spirit and emphasized his confidence that the implementation will enable the executive arm to complete all outstanding and abandoned projects, bringing them to fruition.
