President Bola Tinubu has downplayed the momentary slip during the presidential parade on 2024 Democracy Day, describing it as his way to prostrate for Nigeria’s 25 years of uninterrupted democracy.

The Nigerian leader had reportedly missed his steps while climbing the parade vehicle at Eagle Square in Abuja on Wednesday.

Tinubu, who momentarily lost his footing, swiftly regained his balance with help from his aide-de-camp (ADC).

Speaking at a dinner to commemorate the day, Tinubu called the incident a “swagger” moment.

He said: “Earlier this morning, I had a swagger, and it is on social media.

“They were confused about whether I was doing Buga or Babariga. But it is a day to celebrate democracy while prostrating as a form of respect for the day.

“I am a traditional Yoruba boy. I did my ‘do bale'(prostrating). Democracy is a day that is worthy of falling for.”
