Several hours after gunmen struck at Kogi State-owned Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) and abducted some students, the state government has reacted to the incident, vowing to do everything possible to rescue them.
The students at CUSTECH were kidnapped by bandits on Thursday, while the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, made the “vow” in a statement on Friday.
He announced that nine students had so far been reported missing following the attack.
While praising the local hunters and other security agents for rising stoutly to engage the kidnappers, Fanwo said: “Their gallantry and dedication ensured that the kidnappers did not have a field day, which would have been more calamitous.
“We won’t submit to terror. We shall prevail,” the government said.
The government disclosed that “hundreds of local hunters who understand the terrain as well as conventional security agents are currently combing the area to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students who were kidnapped in the classrooms.”
He assured students, parents, and the Kogi State community that the government was monitoring the situation and would save all of the abducted students.
The commissioner said Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo has ordered the immediate stationing of security agents around all tertiary institutions in the state.
