The head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has bade farewell to Nigeria as the coach of the national football team.

The announcement came yesterday following the conclusion of his contract with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), marking the end of his 22-month service.

Reflecting on his time with the Super Eagles, Peseiro expressed pride and honour in having had the opportunity to lead the team.

He highlighted the rollercoaster of emotions and the sense of fulfilment that characterized his journey alongside the players and the staff.

“I concluded our contract with the NFF. It was a pride and honour to coach the Super Eagles,” Peseiro stated.

“It has been 22 months of immense dedication, sacrifice, emotion, and enormous enthusiasm. We feel a sense of fulfilment.”

Peseiro, who led the Super Eagles to the final of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), where the team lost to the host nation, Ivory Coast, extended his gratitude to key figures within the NFF, including Sir Amaju Pinnick, the president who initially signed him, President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and Secretary Dayo Enebi.

He also expressed appreciation to the entire NFF staff and, notably, the players whose commitment and talent made his role as coach an immense pleasure.

“We would like to express our gratitude to Sir Amaju Pinnick (the president who signed us), President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, Secretary Dayo Enebi, the NFF, all the staff, and especially all the PLAYERS, with whom leading has been a great pleasure,” Peseiro acknowledged.
