The resignation of Sen. Abdullahi Adamu as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been confirmed and this is official.
Mr Nze Duru, the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the party confirmed the latest development in a statement given to Persecondnews on Monday in Abuja.
According to him, in line with the party’s constitution, Mr Abubakar Kyari, the Deputy National Chairman (North) has taken over from Adamu.
“One can confirm, Yes, credible information that the Chairman of the party has stepped down and meetings are currently ongoing,” Duru told newsmen at the party’s secretariat.
“We know that our constitution has provided adequately, a transition process in the leadership of the party.
“The Deputy National Chairman, North will assume in an acting capacity the position of the chairman,” he explained.
He said the details of the resignation of Iyiola Omisore, the APC national secretary were still sketchy but expressed the belief that he will put the party first in whatever step or decision he wants to take.
Duru also said consultations are ongoing across all the strata of the party to enable an “easy leadership transition”.
The Deputy National Organising Secretary declared: “I do not have the information if the Secretary has resigned. There is an expectation that he should and I also believe that being a seasoned politician who has played at the highest level, he will always act in the interest of the party.
“And to also assure Nigerians that APC is a very strong party built on a very strong foundation with credible system and leadership to continue to transition to the next phase in the life of the party.
“We are not expecting a caretaker committee and I did make the point that meetings are going on across all the caucuses of the party, the various leadership in the party.
“It is also expected that the office of the secretary of the party will go across the other divide.”
Persecondnews reports that the NWC members arrived at the party secretariat at about 11:20 am ahead of the scheduled meeting.
The National Organising Secretary of the party, Suleiman Arugungu Duru; Disable Leader, Tolu Bankole; Deputy National Chairman, South, Emma Eneukwu; National Vice-Chairman, North-east, Salihu Mustapha; National Vice-Chairman, North-west, Dr. Salihu Lukman and Omisore were among the party cheiftains spotted by our correspondent at the secretariat.
Persecondnews earlier reported that Information filtered in that some leaders of the party are the masterminds of the forced resignation, who had been going about with a list of alleged “sins” committed by Adamu against President Bola Tinubu weeks while he was vying for president in May 2022.
The NEC meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 18, it was gathered, is likely to approve a timetable for a midterm elective convention to fill the positions of Adamu and Omisore.
