Yoruba actresses fight dirty on social media over choice of presidential candidates

It is heartbreaking, sad- Muyiwa Ademola

They are ‘yeyebrities’ not celebrities – Yemi Solade

The recent face-off among some prominent Yoruba-speaking movie actresses took a new dimension on Sunday as some of them finally brought their fights to the public domain and threw caution to the wind to fight dirty.

There had been internal wranglings in the camp of many Yoruba actresses since the commencement of the 2023 political campaigns with some of them divided along tribes while others simply claimed that they would be tribalistic at the expense of giving Nigeria the kind of leader it deserves.

The social media was awash with what some of their senior colleagues described as show of shame among some of the actors involved in the drama that has now dragged on for more than 72 hours and does not seem to be ending anytime soon.

One of the leading male actors who registered his displeasure on Monday afternoon was Muyiwa Ademola, who said he is heartbroken by the actions of some of his colleagues, adding that he could not bring himself to understand why they are dragging themselves cheaply on social media over politics.

Per Seconds News recalls that there have been unending social media battles that have pitched some popular actresses such as Iyabo Ojo, Toyin Abraham, Aduni Ade, Dayo Amusa among others against one another.

The problem is not unconnected with the choice of their presidential candidates in 2023 Presidential election, which has seen the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, who is being supported by Abraham and Amusa lose Lagos State to Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), who has the backing of Iyabo and Adunni.

Trouble started when Amusa took to her Instagram page to brand a colleague of her ingrate for choosing to work against the Tinubu in Lagos at the expense of MC Oluomo, who is believed to be the rallying point for actors and actresses supporting Tinubu.

Amusa had said it was unfair on her colleague who was sponsored by MC Olu Omo when she was stranded on different occasions to have worked against his interest in Lagos, pointing out that anyone who does what the unnamed colleague did deserve to be called an ingrate.

Some of her followers were quick to deduce that Amusa was referring to Iyabo, who seems to be one of the leading actress in Yoruba movie industry who supported Obi against Tinubu but Amusa refused to comment further neither did she mention who she was aiming her dig at.

Iyabo would not have any of it as she went on Instagram Live on Sunday afternoon to address the attack on her personality by Amusa, saying she Amusa is too junior to her and could never use such expletive words against her.

While Amusa did not mention Iyabo’s name in the post, Iyabo said nobody can blame her for supporting the candidate of her choice, saying that at no point in her life was she stranded that she needed the help of MC Olu Omo to come to her rescue.

In her words: “I don’t know what Amusa is talking about and how she concluded that Olu Omo paid for my flight tickets or my hotel bills or that of my children. It never happened. He bought me a television when I was having the housewarming of my house just like some of my friends like Tiwa Savage and others gave me money.

“It is unfortunate that people can’t enjoy the liberty of supporting the candidate of their choice in a democratic dispensation. Obi is my choice and I stand firmly with him and nothing is going to change that,” she insisted.

Aminatu Papapa vs Adunni Ade

Bukky Adekogbe Raji, the Yoruba actress fondly called Aminatu Papapa, and Adunni Ade also engaged in a heated war of words on Instagram.

The drama between the two actresses started after Adunni took a swipe at celebrities who are supporting a presidential candidate — although she didn’t mention names.

She also claimed some of her colleagues wasted two months of their lives to campaign for the presidential candidate and were paid a meager “N90,000”.

“This is me not bashing anyone. I don’t give two sh**s who you decide to vote for. Who paid you to vote for them? I don’t care who you are. Who you are rooting for? It is none of my business. I don’t care,” she said.

“This one I’m saying it now. You guys fought yourself. You were fighting each other. They paid you guys peanuts.

“I have a screenshot of someone who got N90,000 after wasting his damn life for two months campaigning for someone. As much as I am managing. As I am a single mother, N100,000 is nothing for me to dash someone.

“You were under the sun, receiving abuses, curses in your head. And at the end of the day, only N90,000 entered your pocket. You are not ashamed. Vote for whoever you want to vote for. But let your conscious prick you.”

Aminatu Papapa, who seemed unhappy by Adunni’s remarks, wondered why she is furious over their support for Tinubu. She said they are backing Tinubu because of the love “we have for Asiwaju” and not for monetary benefits.

“Adunni Ade or what are they calling you? Are you crazy? You said some people went to work for 40 days and at the end of the day the money they were given is peanut. What’s your own on there? Did they tell you we went there because of money? Or the love we have for Asiwaju?” she asked in a video.

“If Oluomo even calls us we’d go there. It’s more than enough. Please for God’s sake, who are those giving you the false information that you are happy while you are swallowing it? Who are you?

“Oluomo is giving you money and you’re collecting it and you are making jest of his candidate. If you allow me to start with you, you won’t finish it. Police is going to arrest everybody.”

Apparently furious, Adunni Ade took to the comment section of Aminatu’s post to hit back at her.

“Iya e ya were my dear! Elenu pelebe! You can’t tend on this glory,” she wrote.

Adunni also challenged Aminatu to a physical fight.

Toyin Abraham and Husband Gets Dragged

For Toyin and her husband, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Sunday was not a good day for their family as supporters of Obi dragged the actress and hurled insults at her and family for standing with Tinubu.

Her husband came out to defend his wife following series of bashing and threats online, saying his wife has the right to support whoever she feels comfortable with, adding that he had no influence over her decision just as he warned those sending threat messages and curses to his family to desist.
