The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Drambi Vandi, who allegedly shot dead Lagos lawyer, Mrs Omobolanle Raheem, on Christmas Day in Ajah area of Lagos, was on Monday arraigned at a State High Court.at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).
He is facing a charge of murder to which he has pleaded not guilty.
Vandi’s offence violates Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
Persecondnews reports that the President of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Y.C. Mikyau (SAN) accompanied by the Chairman, NBA Lagos branch, Mr Ikechukwu Uwanna. and the Lagos Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyo Onigbanjo (SAN), who is prosecuting the case, are among legal big wigs who attended the court.
The pregnant female lawyer was allegedly fatally shot by Vandi in her car in the presence of her husband and some occupants including children at under the bridge in Ajah.
Earlier, Justice I.O. Harrison had stood down the arraignment of Vandi when the Lagos Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyo Onigbanjo, SAN, told the judge that he was informed that the defence counsel, Mr Adetokunbo Odutola, was held up in traffic on his way to the court.
The arraignment which was scheduled for 9.00am was delay untill about 11.00am when Odutola arrived.
Vandi had earlier been arraigned before Chief Magistrate C.A. Adedayo on December 30, 2022, a day after the Police Service Commission (PSC) approved his suspension.
The magistrate remanded him at the Ikoyi custodial facility (prison) pending advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.
Following the DPP’s advice, Vandi was recommended for trial under Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 at the High Court.
