Nonagenarian Senator Ayo Fasanmi, one of the oldest loyalists of the sage, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and patriarch of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organization, has passed on.
Aged 94, Pa Fasanmi, a pharmacist, died on Wednesday night.
His son, Afolabi wrote: “With gratitude to the Almighty God for a life well spent, we wish to announce the demise of our father, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, at the ripe age of 94 years.”
Afolabi said his father, a second republic senator, died in his sleep in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
PerSecondNews reports that the Ekiti-born politician, who until his death a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a committed Awoist.
ln 1978, Fasanmi contested the old Ondo State governorship primary of the Unity Party of Nigeria led by the sage, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
He, however, lost to the late Gov. Adekunle Ajasin.
