For stealing plantain valued at N55, 000 at a village, 35-year-old man, Maruf Ojo, is to spend one month behind the bars, an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun State has ruled.
Ojo, who bolted with bunches of plantain of market value of N55,000, was tried for stealing.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted accordingly.
Following his guilty plea, Ojo’s counsel, Mrs Tosin Omoyeni, urged the court to be lenient with him as a first offender.
Handing down her judgment, the Magistrate, Mrs A. A. Adebayo, said as a first time offender she would be lenient with Ojo.
She sentenced him to one month imprisonment to be served at a Correctional Centre or an option of N1,000 fine.
Ojo committed the offence on July 17, 2020 at Oke-Ora village, via Ile-Ife when he stole some bunches of plantain valued at N55,000 property of the complainant, Mr Sunday Oladipupo, according to Police Prosecutor Sunday Osanyintuyi.
The offence violated Sections 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
