Few hours after he was reportedly kidnapped, a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Edike, has been found dead.

ACP Edike was ambushed and abducted on Friday at Effurun while returning from a social engagement.

His driver had reported the incident to the family.

The body of the kidnapped police officer was later found along the Benin-Warri/Effurun road, a source said.

However, a member of the family, Mr Joseph Edike, has confirmed the incident.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased had been deposited at a morgue in the area pending further investigation.
