President Muhammadu Buhari flexed his muscles in the race to be Senate President Tuesday at the upper chamber, helping Ahmad Lawan to win through tough one-on-one challenge with fellow party man Ali Ndume, who had the support of the opposition PDP
The win was evidence that Buhari — who failed to have his choice in the 8th Assembly as Senate President — does hold some sway with members of the 9th Assembly.
Senator Lawan was nominated by senator-elect Yayaha Abdullahi and seconded by Solomon Adeola Olamilekan both of whom are of the All Progressives Congress, APC, from Kebbi and Lagos States respectively.
Lawan won with 79 votes, while Ndume gathered 28 votes.
