The Lagos Police Command has been plunged into grief following the sudden death of one of its dedicated officers, CSP Matilda Ngbanoyen, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the FESTAC Division.

Ngbanoyen tragically passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025, while undergoing surgery for fibroid treatment, Persecondnews learnt.

The Chief Superintendent of Police died around 11:30 p.m. at the Mayriamville Medical Centre in Bode Thomas, Surulere.

SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Lagos Police Command spokesperson, announced the DPO’s passing in a statement on Saturday, expressing deep shock at the news.

Adebisi highlighted CSP Ngbanoyen’s commitment, describing her as a dedicated officer who consistently performed her duties to the highest standard.

“The Command mourns the loss of a truly upright and dedicated officer who served with unwavering professionalism and integrity.

“Until her passing she was known for her diligence and commitment to duty. Her friendly disposition and humane approach to policing greatly helped to bridge the gap between the Police and the public she dutifully served.

“At no time was she found wanting in the discharge of responsibilities,” Police said in the statement.

She added that Police Commissioner Olohundare Jimoh and all officers of the command had commiserated with the family and the aged mother of the late DPO over the tragic loss.
