The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Abbas Tajudeen, swore in three new members on Tuesday, October 7, following their victories in the August 16, 2025, bye-elections.

The three newly sworn-in lawmakers are among five individuals elected to occupy vacant seats following the deaths of four members and Rep. Dennis Idahosa’s decision to become the running mate to Sen. Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 Edo governorship election.

Persecondnews recalls that the Green Chamber lost four members to illness in 2024, including Rep. Ekene Adams (Kaduna), Rep. Isa Dogonyaro (Jigawa), and Rep. Olaide Akinremi (Oyo), while Rep. Oriyomi Onanuga passed away in 2025.

In August, the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) conducted bye-elections in the respective states to fill the vacant seats.

While the All Progressives Congress(APC) won four out of the five vacant seats, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won one seat.

Those sworn in on Tuesday are Omosede Igbinedion (Ovia South/Ovia West/Ovia North-East Federal Constituency, Edo State), Joseph Bagudu (Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Kaduna State) and Mukhtar Rabiu of Garki/Babura Federal Constituency, Jigawa State.

No reason was given for the absence of Elegbeji Ayola, who won the Sagamu/Ikenne/Remo North Federal Constituency, Ogun State seat and Oyekunle Sunday of the PDP, who won the Ibadan North seat.
