From the Bench to the History Books: Ngumoha’s 100th-Minute Strike Snatches Victory for Liverpool

Teenager Rio Ngumoha emerged as Liverpool’s hero, securing a heart-stopping 3-2 victory over Newcastle with a dramatic late goal.

The 16-year-old came off the bench and hammered a powerful strike past Nick Pope in the 100th minute, delivering a stunning finish to a wild match at St James’ Park.

This win marked a remarkable turn of events, with Liverpool initially taking a 2-0 lead through Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike’s strikes.

Ngumoha’s goal not only sealed the win but also made him Liverpool’s youngest ever goalscorer at 16 years and 361 days old.

He joins an elite group of young scorers in the Premier League, becoming the fourth youngest goal scorer in the league’s history and the second 16-year-old to score a winning goal after Wayne Rooney.

This impressive debut performance has sparked excitement among Liverpool fans, with many hailing Ngumoha as a future superstar.

Despite being reduced to 10 men after Anthony Gordon’s sending-off for a rash foul on Virgil van Dijk, Newcastle dominated the latter stages of the match.

They pulled two goals back through Bruno Guimaraes and Osula, with the latter scoring after a Dan Burn flick-on.

However, Ngumoha’s cool finish from a Mohamed Salah cross proved to be the decisive moment, securing all three points for Liverpool.

Gordon had a forgettable evening, missing three decent chances in quick succession before being sent off.

The Newcastle striker appeared desperate to impress, which led to his rash challenge on Van Dijk.

Thierry Henry noted that Gordon “gets carried away with what’s been happening,” and he was fortunate that his teammates bailed him out.
