Former Imo Governor Rochas Okorocha has been arrested by the Police at Reiz Continental Hotel in Abuja over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Force spokesperson Aniete Iniedu confirmed the arrest Okorocha on Monday night and was released on bail after one hour of interrogation.
He has been directed to return to Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as the probe continues.
The arrest followed Okorocha’s failure to honour earlier police invitations. He was first invited on September 2, but the meeting was shifted to September 8 at the request of his lawyers. He reportedly did not appear for the rescheduled session.
The development comes days after the Independent National Electoral Commission petitioned both the Department of State Services and the police over a document circulating on social media.
INEC described the document as a fictitious All Progressives Congress senatorial primary result report.
In letters dated October 5 and 8, 2026, Imo Resident Electoral Commissioner Chukwuemeka Ibeziako asked security agencies to investigate the paper, which names Okorocha as winner of the APC primary for Imo West senatorial district.
Ibeziako stated that the circulating document contradicts the authentic result report, dated May 18, 2026, which was signed and forwarded to INEC headquarters and identifies Imo Gov. Hope Uzodimma as the duly elected candidate.
In his letter to the DSS state director, the REC warned that circulation of the fake document could trigger a breakdown of law and order in Imo State.
He repeated the complaint in a separate letter to the Imo State Commissioner of Police.
