Adama claimed a silver medal in the men’s 50m butterfly event, clocking 23.64 seconds, just 0.1 seconds behind Great Britain’s Dean Fearn.

This remarkable feat not only marks a milestone for Nigerian swimming but also signals the emergence of a potential Olympic medalist for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Adama’s journey to this historic win was paved with record-breaking performances.

He lowered his Nigerian record twice in one day, achieving 23.61 seconds in the prelims and 23.48 seconds in the semifinals.

Prior to this championship, his record stood at 23.81 seconds.

This impressive display showcases Adama’s dedication and talent, solidifying his position as a rising star in African swimming.

Adama’s achievement extends beyond his individual success, as it highlights Nigeria’s growing presence in the swimming world.

Setting his sights on the 2028 Olympics, Adama’s performance has ignited hope that Nigeria could finally secure its first-ever Olympic medal in swimming.

Recognizing his immense talent, the National Sports Commission inducted him into their Elite Athletes and Podium Programme.

This honour, along with a ₦5 million cash reward, will help fuel Adama’s pursuit of excellence.

Adama’s success is a testament to both his hard work and the support he has received.

His potential was on full display at the 16th Africa Junior Swimming Championships in Cairo, Egypt, where he earned gold medals in the 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle events.
