Kwara United’s Chairman, Mr. Kumbi Titiloye, has expressed confidence in the team’s readiness for both the upcoming 2025-26 season and their CAF Confederation Cup match against Asante Kotoko.
The team will face Asante Kotoko in a two-legged tie, with the first leg taking place in Ghana in September and the return fixture to be hosted in Nigeria.
The winner of this match will advance to play against Wydad Casablanca.
In an exclusive interview with a Persecondnews correspondent in Abuja, Titiloye said the team is determined to compete on all fronts in the 2025-2026 season.
According to Titiloye, winning the FA Cup has given the team a strong mentality to go all out for success.
“We aim to win the Nigerian Professional Football League, there is no excuse,” Titiloye told Persecondnews.
“We have also set targets to get to the finals of the Confederation Cup.”
The chairman credited the team’s strong backing from the governor for their ambitious goals.
Titiloye also pointed out the team’s financial stability, noting that the settlement of a backlog of N201m in sign-on fees for coaches and players has given the team a fresh start.
“It’s freedom at last,” he said, referring to the debt that dated back 16 years.
With this financial burden lifted, Kwara United will kick off their campaign debt-free, ready to take on the challenges of the new season.
With this latest development, Kwara United have complied with the Nigeria Professional Football League’s (NPFL) directive to settle outstanding financial obligations.
The clubs had previously faced complaints over overdue payables and contract breaches, with the NPFL warning that defaulting clubs would risk having the licences of their new players withdrawn indefinitely.
