A fatal tanker explosion on Monday, August 11, in Dan Magaji, Zaria, Kaduna State, has resulted in several deaths.

According to a report from Persecondnews, the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. near the Rochas Foundation School on the Kaduna-Kano Expressway bypass.

Eyewitness accounts, shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, state that the accident involved two fuel tankers and two Golf cars carrying passengers.

The collision reportedly caused five loud explosions, sending massive flames and thick black smoke across the highway.

“All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” a witness told Makama.

Emergency services and security personnel swiftly moved to the scene, cordoning off the area and urging motorists to seek alternative routes as rescue and recovery operations continue.

As of the time of this report, no official number of victims has been declared, and no government agency has confirmed the accident or the number of victims.

Nigeria has witnessed a disturbing rise in fatal road accidents and fires since the start of the year, resulting in significant loss of lives and property.

Persecondnews recalls that 98 people lost their lives on January 19, 2025, while scooping fuel from a crashed tanker at Dikko Junction along the expressway between Niger and Kaduna states.

At least 56 residents sustained varying degrees of burns and were rushed to different hospitals for treatment.

Also on January 25, 2025, a fuel-laden tanker experienced brake failure, fell, and burst into flames, killing at least 21 people and injuring many others along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, specifically at the Ugwu Onyeama axis.
