Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner, Ajao Adewale, announced Friday that the command achieved a notable reduction in crime during May and June 2025.

During this period, 82 suspects were arrested in connection with 49 reported criminal cases.

Adewale, speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, said these successful operations were carried out under the direct guidance of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

Adewale said the command successfully addressed seven reported kidnapping cases, arresting 17 suspects and neutralizing three others, while also foiling five attempted kidnapping incidents across various locations, including Apo Waru, Byhazin, Karshi, Kawo-Bwari, Gidan-Dogo Forest Kweri and Abaji.

According to him, three additional suspects were arrested and three others neutralised during a shootout while attempting to kidnap victims at Kawo Village Clinic in Bwari.

He said: “The command apprehended six suspects in connection with five reported robbery cases in Apo and Kubwa, recovering four vehicles, a jack-knife, military camouflage, and pistol ammunition. We also arrested 17 suspects in five reported armed robbery cases and nine suspects in six recorded theft cases.

“The command detained one suspect for illegal possession of firearms and four suspects in a reported case of one-chance robbery. In an attempted homicide case, one suspect was arrested, and we recovered a locally fabricated pump-action shotgun and an expended cartridge.

“Furthermore, two suspects were arrested in a fraud case, and five suspects, including illegal scrap dealers who receive, butcher, and resell stolen vehicles, were apprehended in four reported car theft cases.

“Additionally, two domestic violence cases and four child trafficking cases were reported and transferred to the SCID from various divisions, resulting in the arrest of eight suspects. Ten suspects were arrested in connection with 12 reported rape cases, with four cases currently under investigation.

“Three children were rescued from traffickers, and eight abandoned babies were recovered and subsequently handed over to the Social Welfare Centre.”

Among the exhibits displayed on Friday was an impressive array of firearms, including three AK-47 rifles with three magazines, one locally-made pistol with magazine, one Beretta pistol, one pump-action shotgun, two LAR rifles, and 36 rounds of live ammunition.

Also on display were various other items recovered from robbery cases, including one axe, nine walkie-talkies, one sharp spear, and one short knife.

Additionally, the exhibits included stolen goods from theft cases, such as one air conditioning unit, two motorcycles, 27 iron rods, one mobile phone, 11 power banks, three AirPods, one smartwatch, eight ATM cards, six phone chargers, and one Sumac fireman generator set.

Furthermore, a jackknife recovered from foiled robbery attempts and N79,000 in cash seized from a theft case were also displayed.

Notably, 10 vehicles recovered by various units, including Durumi Division, Kubwa Division, Central Police Station, and Anti-One-Chance Squad, were showcased, alongside two motorcycles seized from kidnapping suspects.

CP Adewale, outlined plans for the coming month, stating that the command will build on the successes of May and June 2025 by intensifying community policing engagements, intelligence-led policing strategies, targeted clearance operations, and public enlightenment initiatives to address the evolving security demands of the FCT.

He said: “These achievements underscore the command’s commitment and effort in the proactive fight and intelligence-led strategies against criminality within the nation’s capital and its environs.

“To this end, I wish to assure the residents of the Federal Capital Territory that we will keep taking the fight to the criminals wherever they are in order to sustain the peace being enjoyed in the FCT.”
