The Accountant-General of the Federation, Mr. Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, has requested the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) partnership to curb widespread revenue leakages and shortages across the country.

During a courtesy visit to the EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, in Abuja on Wednesday, Ogunjimi emphasized the critical need to block these numerous revenue leakage points.

According to a statement from the EFCC obtained by Persecondnews, the AGF stressed that it would be impossible to fully execute the 2025 federal budget without addressing these issues.

He specifically requested the EFCC’s assistance in securing funding for the 2025 budget and establishing a sounder financial system in Nigeria.

Ogunjimi highlighted that the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and the EFCC share common interests in financial matters, asserting that optimal results cannot be achieved without effective collaboration.

“Currently, the country is witnessing a lot in terms of revenue leakages and shortages, and so we believe that for us to be able to perform or achieve our mandate, we need your support and collaboration,” he said.

Ogunjimi further requested the EFCC’s assistance in tracing fraudulent transactions and blocking financial leakages to ensure the government can adequately fund the budget and meet salary obligations.

In response, Olukoyede affirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting efforts to block and prevent leakages across all government ministries, departments, and agencies.

“We want to pledge our commitment and support to ensure that we create a more stable and sound financial system in Nigeria.

“That is part of our mandate. We share a similar mandate, and it is also important for us to carry out our activities in the most accountable and transparent manner,” he said.
