In a gale of defection, eight PDP reps join APC

1.4k

In a wave of defections, six House of Representatives members from Delta State and two from Enugu State have switched parties.
The six Delta lawmakers defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while the two Enugu lawmakers left the Labour Party (LP) for the PDP.
The letters of defection from the lawmakers were read on the House floor during Tuesday’s plenary session.
The defecting lawmakers from Delta were led by Rep. Nicholas Mutu (Bomadi), Leader of the Southern regional caucus in the House and its longest-serving member, who has represented the PDP since 1999.
The other defecting lawmakers included Rep. Nnamdi Ezechi (Ndokwa/Nkwuani), Rep. Jonathan Okodiko (Isoko), Rep. Thomas Eriyetomi (Warri), Rep. Julius Pondi (Burutu), and Rep. Victor Nwokolo (Ika North and South).
The lawmakers who defected from the LP were Rep. Mark Obetta (Nsukka/Igboeze South) and Rep. Dennis Agbo (Igbo Eze North/Udenu), both from Enugu State.
The defectors cited the crises rocking their former parties at all levels as the reason for seeking new political platforms.
Persecondnews recalls that the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and the former Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, left PDP two weeks ago to join APC.
