NDPHC invests N500bln in power infrastructure nationwide – MD Adighije

“We are unrelenting… we will scale transmission to evacuate stranded generation”

The Managing Director and CEO of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Engr. Jennifer Adighije, has disclosed that the company has committed more than N500 billion to transmission infrastructure across the country as part of efforts to strengthen electricity value-chain.

Adighije made the disclosure during an inspection tour of the 330/132/33kV Lafia Transmission Substation, a world-class facility constructed by NDPHC and inaugurated in 2022.

She said the investment underscores the agency’s central role in powering Nigeria’s industrial aspirations under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“By every standard, this is one of the best you can ever find internationally,” she said, referring to the Lafia substation.

“We are an entity essentially that provides backbone services for the sector, ensuring that we deliver projects that impact the entire gas-to-electricity value chain.

Accompanied by key members of her management team, Adighije said the NDPHC is undeterred by Nigeria’s ongoing liquidity challenges in the power sector.

“We are unrelenting, we are undeterred, and will continue to dedicate resources to ensure we scale transmission to evacuate the stranded generation that we have,” she affirmed.

Addressing public concerns over the company’s power generation, the NDPHC boss clarified that the problem is not with generation, but with limited transmission capacity. “

Let me put it to Nigerians: we actually have generation in excess of the transmission availability,” she said.

Also speaking during a courtesy visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, Adighije thanked the state government for its support and reiterated that recent legislative reforms have opened new opportunities for direct electricity transactions.

“With the enactment of the Electricity Act, stakeholders are now empowered to transact bilaterally. This allows us to stimulate market activity at the state level, ensuring last-mile access to electricity,” she added.

In his response, Governor Sule praised Adighije’s leadership, noting visible transformations since she took office.

He, however, stressed that power distribution remains a weak link in the chain.

“Despite this excellent transmission infrastructure, power supply remains a challenge due to the poor distribution network,” the governor said.

“It’s a total waste to generate electricity that cannot be taken. DisCos need to play their part.”

The inspection visit further cemented NDPHC’s role as a cornerstone in Nigeria’s power reforms, demonstrating both technical capacity and strategic vision for a sustainable energy future.
