Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season, bringing an end to his decade-long stay at the Etihad.
The Belgian midfielder, 33, revealed his decision in an emotional letter to fans on Friday, stating that his contract, which is due to expire, will not be renewed.
“Dear Manchester, Seeing this you probably realise where this is heading. So I’ll get straight to it and let you all know that these will be my final months as a Manchester City player,” De Bruyne wrote.
“Nothing about this is easy to write, but as football players, we all know this day eventually comes. That day is here, and you deserve to hear it from me first”.
De Bruyne, who has established himself as one of City’s greatest ever players, thanked the club, staff, teammates, and fans for an unforgettable 10-year journey.
“Football led me to all of you – and to this city. Chasing this dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people… gave me EVERYTHING. I had no choice but to give EVERYTHING back! And guess what – we won EVERYTHING”.
The midfielder, who has won six Premier League titles, five Carabao Cups, two FA Cups, and the Champions League, among other honors, confirmed that he will always cherish the memories of his time at City.
“‘Manchester’ will forever be on our kids’ passports – and more importantly, in each of our hearts. This will always be our HOME”.
With De Bruyne’s departure confirmed, attention turns to his next move, with a lucrative switch to Saudi Arabia or the US reportedly on the cards.
Persecondnews gathered that De Bruyne was heavily linked with a transfer to the Middle East last summer, but ended up remaining at City for another season. MLS’ newest club San Diego FC has also held talks with De Bruyne as he weighs up his future.
