President Bola Tinubu has commended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his maturity and respect for the intervention of elders in resolving the political crisis that rocked the state.
Tinubu gave the commendation on Saturday at the Rainbow Coalition Presidential Campaign Rally in support of his 2027 re-election bid, held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The President lauded Fubara for maintaining peace during the political misunderstanding in the state, praising his respect for the intervention of elders.
"Similarly, Fubara, Your Excellency, the host governor of today, I want to thank you for maturity, understanding, respect for the wisdom of elders. When we intervened, you respected our position. You maintained peace. You are a committed democrat," Tinubu said.
He assured the governor that his decision to respect the intervention and maintain peace in the state would not be regretted, adding that those involved in the reconciliation would stand by the agreement.
Turning to the 2027 general election, Tinubu told Nigerian youths that the contest was about their future and urged them to participate actively in the electoral process.
"To the youth of Nigeria, I'm looking at you. This election is about you. This election is about you. It is not about me. Your future depends on this election. This progress, I have no reverse gear," he maintained.
He described the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) as the weapon available to Nigerians to determine their political future, urging those who had yet to collect theirs to do so.
"The weapon you have is the PVC. If you have not collected yours, please go ahead and collect it. The weapon you have against poverty is to elect progressive development of our economy. That is what I pursue," he added.
Tinubu also declared that Nigeria had entered a golden age of prosperity, insisting that his administration had reversed the economic decline inherited from previous governments.
"We have started the golden age. The prosperity is here. Twenty-seven out of 36 states were unable to pay salaries. But ever since, we have reversed the decay. We are on the move for prosperity," he said.
He further challenged former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to explain his economic record while serving in government, accusing those criticising his administration over hunger of attempting to distance themselves from the problems they created.
The President also addressed outstanding pension and gratuity payments, claiming that his administration was clearing billions and trillions of naira owed to retired workers by previous governments.
He cited retired engineers and teachers among those now receiving their entitlements, insisting that the administration was committed to ensuring that every family benefited from the country's economic recovery.
Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his contribution to infrastructure development, describing him as a development partner of his administration.
"He is doing a wonderful job, committed, very, very hardworking, a man with a vision who combines that with a mission. I want you to help me thank him for his contribution to the infrastructural development of our country," Tinubu said.
