Following breaches of admission, accreditation and university affiliation regulations, the Federal Ministry of Education has cancelled all admissions into the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, NCE and degree programmes for the 2026 academic session.

The NTI is not authorised to award National Certificate in Education (NCE) or university degrees, the ministry clarified in a statement issued by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, on Saturday.

“The Ministry emphasises that no further admissions into the affected programmes, whether full-time, part-time or through Distance Learning Studies (DLS), are permitted.

“Members of the public are therefore strongly advised not to apply, accept admission offers or make payments for such programmes,” it said.

According to the ministry , the directive follows violations of the Ministerial Operational Guidelines issued on September 12, 2025, particularly provisions governing admissions, accreditation and institutional affiliations.

“NCE admissions must comply with applicable Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) requirements and accreditation standards established by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE),” it added.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has also been directed to notify affected universities and ensure compliance with the decision to discontinue NTI’s degree-awarding arrangements.

However, to protect students already enrolled in the affected programmes, the NCCE will conduct comprehensive accreditation of existing NCE II–IV Distance Learning programmes and study centres across the six geopolitical zones.

The Ministry said eligible students would be allowed to complete their programmes, subject to accreditation outcomes and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.

Reaffirming the Institute’s responsibilities, the Ministry stated: “The Ministry reiterates that NTI’s statutory mandate remains teacher training, retraining, in-service development and continuous professional development.”

These responsibilities include pedagogical capacity-building and the three-to-six-month Special Abridged Programme designed for serving teachers with non-Education degrees to acquire the professional competencies required for registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), subject to applicable regulations.

Consequently, the institution urges students and parents to double-check course accreditation and admission validity through official government portals before committing to any enrolment fees or tuition payments.
