The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has started the construction of a 68-room players’ hostel and new training pitches at the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

The groundbreaking ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, March 18, will be performed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr.Tajudeen Abbas.

The NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel, funded by FIFA’s Forward 3.0 program, will feature 62 single rooms, four suites, and two executive suites.

In addition to the hostel, the project includes the construction of two new training pitches, reconstruction of an existing synthetic pitch, and the installation of sitting terraces for spectators with 1,838 seats.

NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, expressed his excitement about the project, stating that it will enhance team management, reduce expenditure, and enable the NFF to commit more funds to grassroots development programs.

FIFA’s Deputy Chief Member Associations Officer and Regional Director (Africa), Gelson Fernandes, also lauded the project, emphasizing FIFA’s commitment to supporting Nigerian football.

The projects, expected to be completed 24 months, has invited several special guests, including government officials, sports personalities, and Nigerian football legends.

They include former senior team captains Olusegun Odegbami, Augustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, and Nwankwo Kanu.
