The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has set a new standard for transparency and meritocracy in the country’s recruitment process.

The recent conclusion of its recruitment exercise has been hailed by many as one of the most transparent and merit-based in decades.

Neitzens have taken to social media to express their gratitude and admiration for the process, with many testifying to getting hired without any connections.

One user, @khadijah_b_, shared her excitement on X, saying: “She got the job at NNPC! Alhamdulillah rabil alamin! No connection whatsoever, just Allah fulfilling the promise of providing for us from ways we never imagined! Alhamdulillah.”

Another user, @realbeezle, applauded the NNPC’s GCEO, Mele Kyari, saying: “To be honest, Mele Kyari has done a lot of good things when it comes to recruitment in NNPC. I know many folks who got a job in NNPC without making any contact. Allah ya chiyar da na baya. Amin.”

The NNPC Ltd’s commitment to transparency and meritocracy is a breath of fresh air in a country where nepotism and favoritism often mar recruitment processes.

The Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, expressed satisfaction with the process and encouraged unsuccessful applicants to consider future opportunities.

He said: “NNPC Ltd is delighted to announce the successful conclusion of its recruitment exercise, which was conducted with utmost fairness, transparency, and rigour, and is highly regarded as one of the best in the country.”

Soneye reassured that the recruitment exercise was based purely on merit, with no room for godfatherism.

“Since 2000, when we began significant intake of graduate trainees, our guiding principle has always been merit. The records are available for anyone to verify,” he said.

Under the leadership of GCEO Mele Kyari, Soneye said that all hiring methods, screening processes, tests, and interviews adhere to world-class practices, ensuring merit and transparency.

The NNPC Ltd’s recruitment process is a shining example of what can be achieved when transparency and meritocracy are prioritized.

As the country continues to grapple with issues of corruption and nepotism, the NNPC Ltd’s commitment to doing things differently is a beacon of hope.

As @el_bonga wrote: “NNPC has always maintained a merit-based system of employing the very best of the best brains. Every recruitment is accompanied with ‘Na lie, it’s connection’, but the deluge of testimonies of people getting it on merit never deter proponents of doom that always discourage others.”
