Team Nigeria is airborne for Monrovia, locked on retaining the Africa Scrabble Championship and cementing its status as the continent’s dominant force in the game.
The 16th edition assembles 134 competitors from 24 nations at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex, setting up an intense scrap for continental supremacy.
Nigeria deploys a 25-player squad drawn from its rich talent reservoir, Kenya fields the biggest group with 34, Uganda follows with 30, signalling rising investment and sharper rivalry across Africa.
A track record of multiple team and individual titles, plus players who have thrived on the global stage, keeps the defending champions among the clear favourites even as opponents step up their challenge.
Enhanced preparation, wider entry and stronger grassroots development have lifted expectations of a tightly fought tournament featuring Kenya, Uganda and other ambitious sides.
Beyond medals, the event promotes Scrabble, builds sporting links among African countries and spotlights intellectual excellence through vocabulary, strategy, numerical skill and mental discipline.
Team Nigeria’s goal is straightforward, protect the title, preserve national tradition and display talent depth, banking on experience, pedigree and unity to return with the crown intact.
