Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar led a delegation to meet with his former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, at his hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on Monday.

Persecondnews reports that Atiku was accompanied by former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, and Senator Aminu Tambuwal, a former governor of Sokoto State.

The agenda of the meeting was not disclosed, but it comes amid plans by opposition politicians to strategize and defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.

The media aide to former President Obasanjo, Mr. Kehinde Akinyemi, confirmed the meeting in a telephone chat with Persecondnews on Monday.

Atiku, who served as vice president under Obasanjo from 1999 to 2007, has been a presidential aspirant for over three decades.

Atiku, 78, had contested the 2023 presidential election under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and came second after President Bola Tinubu of the APC.

Despite his age, Atiku has reiterated his commitment to his presidential aspirations, drawing inspiration from former US President Abraham Lincoln, who contested seven times before winning.

“Even the former US President Abraham Lincoln contested seven times before finally winning,” Atiku noted.

Abubakar has run for the number one office six times, but has been on the ballot as a presidential candidate on three occasions — 2007, 2019, and 2023.

Persecondnews recalls that in November 2024 the former vice president hosted Peter Obi, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) to a breakfast meeting at his residence in Adamawa State.

In a video posted on his X handle, Abubakar is seen with the LP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, walking into a dining area of his house.

Obi, who was a member of PDP, joined the LP in 2022 — about seven months before the 2023 elections.
