Arsenal remain firmly in the title hunt after Noni Madueke’s second-half strike secured victory, keeping them within touching distance of Manchester City while Brighton’s brief spell in second place came to an abrupt end.
“Thank you to my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The glory is his,” Madueke told Sky Sports.
He added “It was a really tough game. We did it all together. We showed a champion spirit here tonight.
“We know it’s difficult here, the first half is often cagey, Arteta said hang in there, stick to the gameplan, attack the opposition, be dangerous, but defend as well. We have extra belief now and can pull it back wherever we go.”
Madueke revealed the Brighton shock forced Arsenal to regroup and prove they can be champions, stressing that without his faith he would not be the player he is today.
Substitutes once again delivered for Mikel Arteta as Madueke’s second-half goal proved decisive, underlining the manager’s trust in his options from the bench.
Eberechi Eze’s position looks increasingly fragile after being withdrawn at half-time, echoing his removal at Aston Villa last December, with Arteta appearing to lack full confidence in the former Crystal Palace star.
Arsenal have now won 18 league games by a single goal across the last two seasons, more than any side in Europe’s top five leagues, as good champions continue to find a way.
Brighton’s prolific attack and solid defence, highlighted by a +18 goal difference after seven games, ensure they will stay close behind.
