Rodri, Manchester City’s Spanish midfielder, has been crowned the world’s best player, becoming the first Premier League player to win the Ballon d’Or since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008.

The 28-year-old received the honor on crutches due to a season-ending double knee injury.

Real Madrid boycotted the ceremony upon learning Vinicius Junior wouldn’t win, withdrawing their 50-strong delegation.

Despite winning Team of the Year and Carlo Ancelotti being named Men’s Coach of the Year, no Real representatives collected the awards.

Rodri helped City secure a fourth consecutive league title and was instrumental in Spain’s European Championship victory.

He emphasized his dedication to improvement and humility in his acceptance speech.

Other winners included Aitana Bonmati (Women’s Ballon d’Or), Lamine Yamal (Kopa Trophy), Emi Martinez (Yashin Trophy), Harry Kane (Gerd Muller award), and Emma Hayes (Women’s Coach of the Year).

The ceremony was marred by Real Madrid’s absence, sparked by Vinicius Junior’s snub. Rodri’s victory capped an exceptional year, despite his current injury.
