Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and coach Justine Madugu have been nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or awards.

In a ceremony held on Thursday, the Ballon d’Or announced its nominees with Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie in contention for the 2025 Women’s Yachine Trophy, which honours the best female goalkeeper, while Madugu is competing for the Women’s Team Coach of the Year Trophy.

Nnadozie’s nomination is a historic moment for African football, as she becomes the first African goalkeeper to be recognized for this award.

Her impressive performances for both Paris FC and the Super Falcons have earned her widespread acclaim.

She played a crucial role in Paris FC’s Coupe de France Féminine win and Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

In the Coupe de France Féminine final, Nnadozie delivered a heroic performance, helping Paris FC edge Paris Saint-Germain 5-4 on penalties.

Her exceptional goalkeeping skills and ability to read the game have made her a standout player.

At WAFCON, Nnadozie’s standout displays earned her the Best Goalkeeper award and a place in the Team of the Tournament.

Coach Justine Madugu led the Super Falcons to their 10th WAFCON title with a stunning 3-2 comeback over host nation Morocco.

Madugu’s triumph is not only a football victory but also a symbol of indigenous African coaching potential.

Madugu will be up against renowned coaches like Sonia Bompastor, Arthur Elias, Renée Slegers, and Sarina Wiegman.

Meanwhile, Nnadozie will face stiff competition from other top goalkeepers, including Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Hannah Hampton, and Daphne van Domselaar.

The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place in Paris on September 22, and only performances from the previous season will be considered.
