The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has rejected allegations of poor treatment made by Libyan senior national team captain, Faisal Al-Badri, following their arrival in Nigeria.
The Libyan team was in Nigeria for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Super Eagles.
According to the NFF’s Assistant Director (Protocol), Emmanuel Ayanbunmi, on Thursday, the Libyan Football Federation created chaos for its own team by informing the NFF of their arrival in Port Harcourt, rather than Uyo, just three hours beforehand.
Ayanbunmi explained that the NFF made arrangements to receive the team in Uyo but had to scramble to make alternative arrangements when informed of the change in plans.
However, rather than using the NFF’s transportation, the Libyan delegation chose to hire their own buses and travel by road from Port Harcourt to Uyo.
The NFF official noted that the federation provided security for the Libyan team, with personnel and vehicles escorting their buses, and therefore it rejects any complaints or threats made by the Libyan captain.
The team’s inconvenience appears to have resulted from last-minute changes and decisions made by the Libyan Football Federation, not from deliberate poor treatment by the NFF.
