Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen has denied reports that he has stepped down as the team’s handler, describing the news as “misleading and false.”

Eguavoen, who led the team to two impressive results in the AFCON Qualifier Group D, including a 3-0 win over Benin Republic and a goalless draw against Rwanda, addressed journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, dismissing the resignation claims.

The coach, who introduced a successful 3-4-3 formation and traditional wing play, resulting in three goals and two clean sheets, expressed concern over the negative stories.

He said that he remains in charge of the team and will evaluate their performance with the federation’s hierarchy after the two recent matches.

Eguavoen stated, “I am still very much in charge. I am the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation, saddled with the responsibility of taking charge of the Super Eagles at this moment, and that’s where we are.”

The Nigeria Football Federation has yet to comment on the matter, but Eguavoen’s statement has put to rest speculation about his departure.

The Super Eagles will continue their AFCON Qualifier campaign under Eguavoen’s leadership, with the coach focused on building on the team’s recent success.
