Fuel price hike: Tinubu never betrayed NLC, Presidency blasts Ajaero

The Presidency has slammed the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, over his comment that President Bola Tinubu betrayed labour leaders by increasing the petrol pump price.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, Mr. Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, described the latest allegation from Ajaero as “dirty politics.”

He stated this on his verified X handle on Wednesday.

Abdulaziz said he was in the last two meetings where Tinubu met with Labour leaders, noting that no offer was made in exchange for a fuel price hike.

He said: “I sat through the two meetings President @officialABAT had with Labour leaders on minimum wage. At neither of the meetings was an offer made in exchange for the fuel price hike.

“Ajaero is once again playing his dirty politics with the emotions of Nigerians.”

Earlier, NLC had branded President Tinubu a betrayer following a recent significant hike in fuel prices.

In a statement signed by Ajaero and made available to Persecondnews in Abuja on Tuesday, the labour centre expressed shock and dismay at what it called the clandestine increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), describing it as a “deep sense of betrayal.”

The NLC recalled that they accepted the N70,000 national minimum wage with the understanding that the PMS pump price would not increase.

The Congress accused the government of reneging on its promises and implementing “ferocious right-wing market policies” that have driven Nigerians to their “all-time low.”
