Defending champion Manchester City defeated Chelsea in a one-sided game at Stamford Bridge, with goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic sealing a 2-0 victory for Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola’s team outclassed Chelsea, which played a 4-2-3-1 formation, dominating Enzo Maresca’s side with and without the ball.
According to Persecondnews, City have gone 10 games unbeaten against Chelsea across all competitions for the first time in their history (W8, D2).
The noisy neighbours are the first side in Premier League history to win 10 consecutive games by two or more goals.
Following Spain’s Euro 2024 success, in which he played a key role, Marc Cucurella was under pressure to deliver his words in the first half.
During the parade, the left-back chanted, “Haaland, you’d better tremble, because Cucurella is coming.”
However, Haaland’s first goal of the campaign came in the 18th minute, sending Cucurella reeling.
Gary Neville praised Haaland for his goal. Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: “You wonder if he’s taken one touch too many, but it’s his strength and his power that allow him to hold off Cucurella and dink it past Sanchez; he’s a beast.”
