Nigeria’s Ella Onojuvwevwo has qualified for the semifinals of the women’s 400m, running an impressive race to win her repechage round on Tuesday.

Repechage is a sports event’s trial heat.

Onojuvwevwo came through the bends and just motored to a comfortable victory in a time of 50.59s, taking the sole automatic qualification.

Persecondnews recalls that the 19-year-old clocked a time of 51.65 seconds, falling short of automatic qualification for the semi-finals on Monday.

Despite leading the field coming into the final bend, Onojuvwevwo lacked the energy to maintain her position in the home straight.

Amber Anning won the heat in 49.68 seconds, followed by Lieke Klaver in 49.96 seconds.
