Linus Williams, a.k.a. BLord, a prominent cryptocurrency entrepreneur, was taken into custody by Nigerian law enforcement officials in Abuja on Tuesday.
The arrest follows investigations into allegations of cryptocurrency-related fraud, suspected terrorism financing, and facilitating internet fraud levelled against his companies.
Williams’ arrest is part of a broader probe into these serious allegations.
The Nigeria Police Force’s spokesperson, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrest of Linus Williams (BLord) in response to complaints made against his companies.
Adejobi pledged that the police will carry out a comprehensive and thorough investigation into the allegations to guarantee the administration of justice.
Adejobi said: “Yes, we have him with us. The FCID (NPF-NCCC) is currently investigating complaints lodged against Blord Group, Blord Real Estate Ltd., Blord Jetpaye Limited, and Billpoint Technology.
“These offences include allegations of cryptocurrency fraud, aiding internet fraud, computer-related fraud, terrorism funding, and non-compliance with regulatory frameworks.
“We will do due diligence in our investigation. Our cyberspace must be safe and secure by all means. We are committed to achieving that.”
Contrary to earlier reports, he clarified that Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, did not file the petition that led to BLord’s arrest.
