Execute only those who steal N1 trillion and above – Sen. Ndume

1.1k

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Sen. Ali Ndume, has said that he would not support death penalty for corrupt politicians who steal millions or billions but for those who steal trillions.

Ndume pointed out that corruption is a connecting web within Nigeria, with looted funds flowing from corrupt politicians to their people.

The Chief Whip of the Senate, while appearing on Channels TV, said greedy politicians who steal over N1 trillion should be executed.

He said, “If you compare us politicians to all the corruption, it is very small. Our corruption is people-driven.

“If you steal it, you will go and share it with the people. If you don’t, you are not coming back for four years. There is no reason for stealing.

“I have been to the National Assembly, I can’t say because we are on TV now and not telling the truth.

“If the death penalty is supposed to be included in corruption, I will support it, but you don’t go and kill someone who stole one million or one billion, no. But someone who steals one trillion of government money should be killed.”

Ndume made the assertions while reacting to the 10th Senate approving death penalty for dealers and importers of cocaine, heroin, and other hard drugs into the country.

The proposed capital punishment also applies to the manufacturing, trafficking, dealing in, or delivery of hard drugs by any means.

The Senate arrived at the resolution on the floor of the red chamber after deliberations on the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024.
