Man jumps into Lagos Lagoon while evading arrest

A man simply identified as Azeez has jumped into the Lagos lagoon while attempting to evade arrest over the alleged theft of bags of cement.

Azeez jumped into the lagoon while being pursued by Elijah Amos, a cement seller, who accused him of theft, Persecondnews gathered on Sunday.

Unluckily for Azeez, he got drowned as his lifeless body was retrieved.

Commenting on the incident, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, said the deceased, Azeez, was confirmed dead by the paramedics of Pre Hospital Care, Lagos.

“It was revealed that Azeez jumped into the lagoon while being pursued by Elijah Amos, a cement seller, who accused him of theft.

“The police visited the scene, and the body was taken to the Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for autopsy and preservation.”

The Director of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) in Lagos Central had reported the case at the Ikoyi Police Divisional Headquarters about 12:20 p.m. on Friday.

According to the director, he received a distress call around 10:45 a.m. on Friday regarding an incident at the Lekki/Ikoyi Link Bridge.

On arrival at the scene, a large crowd had gathered by the waterside, witnessing the lifeless body of the drowned man, later identified as Azeez, he said.
